Shead High School's Winter Carnival 2008

Shead Principal and Vice-principal on Retro Day

During the month of February as a way to overcome the containment of winter, prepare for the basketball tournaments, and just to have some school team building, we have our annual winter carnival. Students and staff compete in various competitions throughout the week. As our Vice Principal, Bobbie Mitchell, shows off her fashion sense for the Retro Day costumes, we have to give credit to Principal Theriault for standing in there for this photo. Good job Bobbie for reviving the old hair styles. They are sure to make a comeback now.

Monday

On Monday events were cut short by a winter storm delay but we had an opportunity to hear our Poetry Out Loud participants.

Students did an outstanding job performing in front of the school and camera.

Tuesday

For Retro Day, we had a variety of games from floor hockey and basketball to ameoba races, shoe races, and scooter races. Each class had their moment to shine, but it appears the Sophomores and Juniors are pulling ahead early.

Fashion faux pas were abound. Mrs Mitchell again leads the fashion world in another direction while the mummy wrap may just start a trend.

Volleyball Basketball

The volleyball and baskball games had a good showing.

Friday

For Pirate Day, the staff gets a chance to teach the students how to really play the games.

Digging in for a pickleStaff vs student basketball

Students show their desire to win and have fun. They outdid the staff who were a no show on the obstacle relay. Digging face first in a pie full of refried beans, peas, and other stuff to find a pickle was where the staff faultered.

The staff came back with a victory in basketball.

Arm WrestlingArm Wrestling

The arm wrestling competion was impressive.

There were a few sore arms after this.

Finally, the Tug-Of-War brought the classes head to head. By the end, there were no groups and just a lot of fun. The one rope had everyone pulling their weight.

We had some really good sports out there pulling together to have fun and win for their class. At the week's end, everyone is a winner because it is off to the Winter Break. The boys' basketball team is going to play in Bangor for the class D tournament. Good job to everyone having fun.
